Introduction and Data Controller
TaskJunction (the "Service," "we," "us," or "our") is a free mechanical engineering calculator website operated by Vaibhav Dhokpande. This Privacy Policy governs your use of taskjunction.org and all associated tools, including calculators and related pages.
By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, you must discontinue use of the Service immediately.
Data Controller: Vaibhav Dhokpande, operating TaskJunction. For privacy-related inquiries, use the details in Section 10 (Contact Us).
Our Terms of Service and Disclaimer explain site rules and how to interpret calculator results. They work together with this policy.
Information Collection and Use
2.1 Log Data
When you access the Service, our hosting provider and servers automatically collect certain technical information ("Log Data"). This Log Data may include:
- Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device type
- Pages visited within our Service, including calculator and category pages
- Time and date of your visit
- Time spent on each page
- Referring URL (the website that directed you to our Service)
- Screen resolution and general device characteristics
This information is used to analyze usage trends, maintain site performance, and support security. How long raw log files are retained depends on our hosting configuration and is separate from analytics retention described below.
2.2 Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use TaskJunction (for example, which pages are viewed, approximate geography, device type, and how people move through the site).
Google may collect information such as your IP address (which may be truncated or processed depending on Google's settings and region), browser and device characteristics, and interactions with our pages. Google uses this data to provide us with aggregated statistics. We do not use Google Analytics to collect the engineering values you type into calculators. Those are handled as described in Section 2.3.
For how Google processes data in Google Analytics, see Google's Privacy Policy and Google Analytics Terms of Service. You can manage some Google-related choices through your browser's cookie settings and, where applicable, your Google Account.
2.3 Calculator and Tool Data
Because calculations happen on your device, we do not maintain a database of your cylinder pressures, gear ratios, beam loads, or other design inputs tied to your name, email, or account. We do not require an account to use our calculators.
Your individual calculator inputs are not used to build a marketing profile of you, are not provided to advertisers as a record of your engineering data, and are not exchanged with any third party for monetary consideration. Standard server logs, Google Analytics (Section 2.2), and third-party advertising tools described in Section 3 may still record that you visited certain pages and general technical data. The collection of that data through advertising cookies may qualify as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under California law (see Section 5).
2.4 Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate and improve the Service. Cookies are small text files placed on your device that help us:
- Understand how you interact with our Service (including through Google Analytics)
- Improve our tools based on usage patterns
- Deliver and measure advertisements through Google AdSense and related partners
- Remember basic preferences where applicable
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect certain functionality, including how ads are served or how analytics records your visit.
2.5 Contact Form and Email
If you use our contact page, we collect the information you choose to submit: name, email address, topic, and message. The form opens your email application with this information pre-filled. When you send the email, we receive and use it only to read and respond to your request.
Email transmission may involve your email provider and standard internet routing according to their technical role. We do not sell contact form information to third parties.
Google AdSense and Third-Party Advertising
3.1 Google AdSense
The Service uses Google AdSense, a third-party advertising network operated by Google LLC, to display advertisements. When you view ads served via Google AdSense, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies and similar technologies on your device. These cookies enable Google to deliver and measure ads, and (where consent allows) to personalize ads based on your prior visits to our Service and other sites on the internet.
A full description of how these cookies work is available in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
3.2 Personalized Advertising and EU/UK Consent
Where you have consented (or where consent is not required by your local law), Google AdSense and other third-party advertising vendors may use cookies and similar technologies to serve interest-based ads on our Service. For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, consent controls may be presented before advertising and measurement cookies are set, depending on how ads are configured on the site.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using privacy controls displayed on the page, where available.
3.3 Opting Out of Personalized Advertising
You may opt out of or manage personalized advertising at any time by visiting:
- Google My Ad Center
- Network Advertising Initiative
- Digital Advertising Alliance (USA)
- Your Online Choices (EU/UK)
Browsers that send the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal are recognized for users in jurisdictions where the law requires this, including California. See Section 5 for more on the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
3.4 Third-Party Disclaimer
We do not control the content of advertisements or the cookies placed by third-party advertisers, including Google AdSense and its downstream vendors. Third-party ad networks use technology to display advertisements on TaskJunction. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. Cookies and similar technologies may also be used to measure the effectiveness of advertisements and personalize ad content.
TaskJunction has no access to or control over cookies used by third-party advertisers. You should consult the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information on their practices.
Special Notice to Parents and Guardians (COPPA)
4.1 Age Restrictions
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires that online service providers obtain parental consent before knowingly collecting personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. TaskJunction is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information.
4.2 How Our Tools Handle Younger Users
We recognize that engineering students may use our calculators. We have designed the Service with these safeguards:
- No account creation required to use calculators
- No server-side storage of calculator inputs during normal use
- No request for names, email addresses, or phone numbers to use core calculator features
- Calculations run in the browser on the user's device
4.3 Parental Rights
If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child under 13 has provided personal information to us (for example, through our contact form), please contact us immediately as described in Section 10. We will take steps to remove that information from our records.
Parents have the right to review, request deletion of, and refuse further collection of their child's information.
4.4 Contact Form Disclaimer
Our contact form collects the fields described in Section 2.5. Children under 13 should not submit information through our contact form without parental consent. If we discover that a child under 13 has submitted personal information through the contact form, we will delete such information promptly.
Your Privacy Rights (GDPR and CCPA)
5.1 Rights Under GDPR (European Economic Area)
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you may have the following data protection rights:

- Right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Right to erasure, under certain conditions
- Right to restrict processing, under certain conditions
- Right to data portability, under certain conditions

To exercise any of these rights, contact us as described in Section 10. We will respond within 30 days where required by law.
5.2 Rights Under California Law (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, including:
- Right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used

- Right to correct inaccurate personal information
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information, where applicable
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
Allowing third-party advertising partners such as Google AdSense to collect personal information from your device through cookies and similar technologies for cross-context behavioral advertising may qualify as "sale" or "sharing" under California law.
5.3 How to Exercise Your Opt-Out Rights
You can exercise your right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising by:
- Using privacy or consent controls displayed on this site, where available
- Sending a valid Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser
- Using the industry opt-out resources listed in Section 3.3
- Contacting us directly using the details in Section 10
We do not currently respond to the older "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser header. References to browser signals in this policy relate to GPC where required by applicable law.
Security of Your Data
We take reasonable steps to protect information associated with the Service, including:
- HTTPS encryption for pages served from taskjunction.org
- Hosting on infrastructure with regular security maintenance
- Limited access to contact emails and operational data
- Periodic review of data collection and processing practices
No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Calculator inputs processed locally in your browser are not transmitted to us during normal calculator use, as described in Section 2.3.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
Material changes: If we make material changes that affect your rights or how we handle personal data, we will provide prominent notice on our website before the change becomes effective.
Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
Third-Party Links and Services
Our Service may contain links to third-party websites, standards references, or services that are not operated by us. If you click a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.
We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
International Data Transfers
Your information, including personal data submitted through our contact form, may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including India, where the site operator is based. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from the laws in your jurisdiction.
If you are located outside India and choose to provide information to us, your use of the Service and submission of information represents your agreement to that transfer and processing.
